North Carolina’s sports betting market.
North Carolina requires operators to partner with professional sports teams, venues, or leagues to gain access. BetMGM’s official partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway, coupled with the operator’s submitted license application at the end of December, sets up the betting app to go live in the Tar Heel State.
“We have been eagerly awaiting legal, safe, regulated online sports betting in North Carolina, a state with more than 10 million people and one of the most vibrant sports environments in the country,” BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a press release. “BetMGM’s partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway meets a great demand for entertainment from North Carolinians. Together we will deliver a premier and responsible gaming product that benefits many state agencies.”
BetMGM said in the release that it anticipates the state’s mobile sports betting market going live in the first quarter of 2024. That lends credence to the North Carolina sports betting apps.

Based on submitted license applications, North Carolina bettors can expect eight sportsbooks to go live in the next few months. The majority of those operators have announced partnerships to give them mobile access in the state. Those operators and their partners are:
- bet365 (Charlotte Hornets)
- BetMGM (Charlotte Motor Speedway)
- DraftKings (NASCAR)
- ESPN BET (Quail Hollow Club)
- Fanatics Sportsbook (Carolina Hurricanes)
- FanDuel (PGA Tour)
DraftKings announced its partnership with NASCAR on Friday, the same day as BetMGM’s announcement. The other operators announced their deals previously.
Underdog, which doesn’t have an operational sportsbook in any state, has yet to announce its partner for North Carolina access.
