Bally Bet is officially live in Maryland, with the sports betting app launching Monday.
The operator comes to Maryland shortly after launching in Virginia.
Despite recent expansion, Bally Bet’s sports wagering future is somewhat uncertain. The operator has struggled to gain market share in the states where it operates. Notably, it’s among the bottom three FanDuel in Maryland.
Last week, Standard General reached an agreement to purchase Bally’s, although it’s not immediately clear what the deal means for the future of Bally’s online sports betting operation.
Maryland Market Changes a1u3e
Shifts in Maryland’s sports betting market are the norm this summer, with several operators entering the state.
Veterans Services Corporation launched its betting app at the start of July, but the operator offered questionable odds and a confusing interface. The betting app faces an uphill climb to gain any interest in a state dominated by DraftKings and FanDuel.
Betr, which has struggled to gain market share in states where it operates, also expects to enter Maryland in the near future. The operator worked through several regulatory steps in the state and is near a launch, although an official go-live date has yet to be publicly shared.
While there are new entrants into Maryland’s mobile betting market, SuperBook Sports is leaving the state after subpar financial performance. The operator posted a sports betting handle of under $500,000 in June, the second-lowest of the state’s mobile betting apps.
The operator never generated major interest in Maryland, even with a marketing partnership with the Baltimore Orioles that included a SuperBook-branded restaurant at Camden Yards and signage on the team’s scoreboard.
SuperBook is dramatically scaling back its online sports betting operations across the entire U.S., choosing to focus mainly on its retail locations in Nevada.
