Few bettors were happier than Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy on Monday night. The UConn Huskies dismantled the Purdue Boilermakers in the men’s basketball national championship, cashing Portnoy’s massive futures bet on the Huskies.
The sports media founder wagered $600,000 on March 20 — the eve of first-round NCAA Tournament games — that UConn (+360) would repeat as national champions. UConn won all six of its NCAA Tournament games by double digits, cruising to a national championship.
Portnoy received $2.76 million in return, profiting $2.16 million. Portnoy called the bet the “greatest” of his sports betting life in a social media post.
“The biggest win of my life by a mile,” Portnoy wrote on X.
He placed the wager on DraftKings, which announced a partnership with Barstool Sports in February. Barstool Sports was previously owned by PENN Entertainment.
The greatest bet of my life. Thank you #uconn Destroyed everybody and everything in their path. They'd win the tournament 100 out of 100 times. The biggest win of my life by a mile. pic.twitter.com/9MfrUNspyN
