the state lottery announced last week. It’s ideal timing for college sports fans in the state.
The launch comes one day before the start of the ACC men’s basketball tournament and about a week before the start of March Madness. For a basketball-crazed state, each event is significant.Â
The University of North Carolina and Duke University each have teams expected to contend not only for the conference title, but also the national championship. They’re each ranked in the top 10 of the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll.Â
When those tournaments begin, North Carolinians will be allowed to wager on not only North Carolina sports betting legislation and regulations allow for bettors to wager on games involving in-state colleges and college player and team prop bets, such as the number of points an individual athlete will score. Â
There should be plenty of interesting prop bets out there come March, as UNC’s RJ Davis leads the ACC in scoring (21.2 points per game) and Tar Heel big man Armando Bacot leads the conference in rebounding (10 per game).
Some other states, including neighboring Virginia, don’t allow wagering on in-state colleges or college player props. College player prop rules vary across states, with some regulators and legislators banning college player prop betting due to concerns of possible foul play.Â
