New Jersey — along with Illinois allows it, but it’s limited to in-person betting.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement first filed a complaint against FOX Bet more than two years ago, alleging the sportsbook accepted bets from within the state of New Jersey on a Feb. 13, 2021, college basketball game between Rutgers and Northwestern.
More than a year later, the state filed a second complaint, saying the sportsbook took action on a Monmouth University basketball game against Lehigh on Nov. 16, 2021. Then two more complaints were filed, first for a Fairleigh Dickinson basketball game against St. Francis on Dec. 31, 2021, and another for a Seton Hall game against the University of Connecticut on Jan. 8, 2022.
On Friday, the state ordered FOX Bet to pay $80,000 for the infractions.
New Jersey voters had a chance in November 2021 to wind back the law that prohibits betting on in-state college teams, but the measure was soundly defeated, with 57% of the voters choosing to keep in place the prohibition against wagering on in-state college action.
