Regarded by many (including the author here) as one of Top-25 best sports movies of all time, the 1996 film “Tin Cup” also contains a very entertaining sports betting scene. After washed up former golf pro Roy McAvoy (played by peak ’90s Kevin Costner alongside peak ’90s Rene Russo) manages to qualify for the U.S. Open through the powers of his magical 7-iron, McAvoy feels quite good about the juice in that club.
So he wagers his golfing rival David Simms (Don Johnson) that he can out-drive Johnson with one swing of the iron. Watch how things unfold.
Fortunately for McAvoy, he wasn’t driving a Lexus or a well-worn Toyota Camry or even a Chevy Malibu. And in the end, things worked out okay for him.
