More Than 60% In Survey Say They Place Live Wagers On NFL Games 73675r

Live betting is quite popular among NFL bettors, a report from Optimove suggests. The report says 61% of survey respondents place live wagers on NFL games. 

Optimove, an international marketing and software firm, surveyed 287 U.S. citizens who bet on the NFL in August. Respondents were 21 or older with household incomes generally of $75,000 or more. 

The survey results might shed more insight into the habits of die-hard NFL bettors rather than recreational bettors, as only preseason games were played in August. The survey’s sample size, fewer than 300 people, also means it’s not a comprehensive review of NFL betting behavior, but rather a snapshot of some bettors.

Responsible gambling stakeholders would be pleased to see that 92% of survey respondents say they’re aware of responsible gambling resources. Of those, 40% take advantage of tools for help or setting limits. 

The survey also found that 81% of bettors manage a budget for their NFL wagering, something gambling experts recommend. 

Alarmingly, however, 45% of respondents itted to wagering more than they can afford to lose. Responsible gambling experts stress that bettors shouldn’t bet more than they can afford to lose, which is why setting a budget before betting is important.  

For bettors dealing with a gambling problem, there are numerous resources available for help, including the National Council on Problem Gambling and Gamblers Anonymous.

According to the report, 63% of bettors wager on at least one game each week, with 37% of respondents wagering on multiple NFL games weekly. They often do so using multiple platforms, with 54% of customers using two or more mobile sportsbooks per week. Nearly 20% use three or more mobile sportsbooks per week. 

FanDuel, two industry giants, are the preferred platforms of survey respondents. The report says 23% of respondents list DraftKings as their favorite platform, while 13% picked FanDuel. About 20% of respondents didn’t have a preference. 

Customers focused on ease of use and promotional offers like free bets when choosing which platform to use. 

Wagers on the spread, total, and player props were among the most popular wager choices of respondents.
