It’s information overload everywhere, and there’s not time enough to sleep and eat and stay fully apprised of what’s happening on this crazy blue dot of ours (two out of three ain’t bad). Here’s the weekend Sports Handle item, “Get a Grip,” recapping the week’s top stories, highlighting some fresh news and rounding up key stories in the world (and industry) of legal U.S. sports betting.

A focus on coronavirus impact: 61373v

Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission forging ahead with sportsbook licensure 4c6r6s

With a May 1 PointsBet all got unanimous approval for Temporary Internet Sports Betting Operator Licenses. The commission also approved Master License applications for three casinos owned by Twin River Worldwide Holdings and three owned by FHR Colorado LLC.
According to Centennial Bets, the commission also heard from the Colorado Gaming Association about concerns regarding layoffs in the battered gaming industry amid the coronavirus crisis. Colorado voters approved sports betting last November by a slim margin. The new law will allow for sports betting statewide at retail locations and via mobile device. It will be legal to bet on all professional and college sports.

DC Lottery close to launching sports betting app and website 5s572w

The “wait” may be nearly over for Washington, D.C. sports bettors. Unfortunately, if the DC Lottery’s sports betting app and website do go live later this month, there won’t be much of anything to wager on. As the coronavirus crisis continues to shut down activities around the world, the DC Lottery and its controversial partner Intralot are still planning to go live with their offerings later this month, according to the DC Lottery Board.

“Our goal for that is the end of this month; however, it is important to note that almost all professional sports leagues globally have indefinitely suspended play amidst the growing concerns around COVID-19, so there will likely be little-to-no games or bets to offer in the coming weeks,” Office of Lottery and Gaming spokesperson Nicole Jordan wrote in an e-mail earlier this week.

Bettors will be able to wager on phones, mobile devices or online — using the DC Lottery’s product, exclusively, a decision made by the DC Council and the lottery board. The OLG will release the name of the new app as well as some branding information in the “coming weeks,” and Jordan did say that the launch date of the products is fluid pending the evolution of the coronavirus crisis.
All of that said, if the Intralot-produced sports betting platform (limited to kiosks) rolled out in Montana is any indication, DC bettors possessing brains or any experience probably will stick to their usual devices.

Once again states with lottery sports book solutions have embarrassed themselves. The lottery has absolutely no business here. Just so you know the lines on the games are
approximately a 12.5% hold. The norm is -110 on both sides or 4.5%. Don't be suckered in Montana pic.twitter.com/UNRCaWgjFY
